Dr. Jake Carrier 2025 Outstanding Graduation Award

Congratulations to Dr. Jake Carrier, one of our fresh Ph.D. graduates in Fall 2025, on receiving the 2025 Outstanding Graduation Award!

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Carrier’s exceptional achievements during his Ph.D. journey at Florida International University. His outstanding academic performance, research productivity, and leadership have made a meaningful impact on our research, our department, and the broader scientific community.

Dr. Carrier’s advisor, Dr. Cheng-Yu Lai, shared that Jake’s creativity, independence, and technical mastery distinguish him as one of the strongest graduate researchers in the program. Dr. Carrier has made significant contributions to materials chemistry and materials engineering through his work on functionalized biopolymers, metal–organic framework (MOF) synthesis and engineering, mesoporous material functionalization, and their applications in gas storage and capture, PFAS (PFOA) removal, heavy-metal remediation, chemical sensing, and other advanced materials research areas.

Beyond his scientific accomplishments, Dr. Carrier has been an exceptional mentor and educator. He successfully guided four undergraduate researchers, all of whom completed independent research projects under his supervision and co-authored publications with him. He is widely recognized for supporting other graduate students through research discussions, experiment troubleshooting, and the development of advanced characterization strategies.

Dr. Carrier’s professionalism, problem-solving abilities, and dedication reflect the highest standards of graduate scholarship.

We proudly congratulate Dr. Carrier on this well-deserved honor and look forward to his continued success as he advances in his scientific career!
