Mechanical Engineering Alumnus Michael Guzman Contributes to Artemis II Launch

​​Meet Michael Guzman, a 2012 FIU Mechanical Engineering alumnus, who is playing a key role in NASA’s Artemis II mission as a Main Propulsion Systems Engineer at Kennedy Space Center.

Originally from New York and raised in a Dominican family, Guzman earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from FIU before pursuing a master’s degree in Space Systems at the Florida Institute of Technology. His journey with NASA began in 2013 when he was selected for a highly competitive internship—an opportunity that quickly shaped his career path and led to a full-time offer with the agency.

Since then, Guzman has contributed to critical propulsion systems and now serves on the Exploration Ground Systems team, supporting the Space Launch System rocket for the Artemis II mission.

Artemis II marks a major milestone in space exploration, as it will send astronauts around the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years. Guzman’s involvement in this historic mission highlights the impact of FIU Mechanical Engineering alumni in advancing space exploration and contributing to landmark achievements in aerospace engineering.
