We are proud to congratulate Suleiman Muktari, Ph.D. candidate in FIU Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department, FIU Mechanical and Materials Engineering, on receiving the International Thermal Spray Association (ITSA) Scholarship, one of only three awarded this year.
The ITSA Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding postgraduate students pursuing careers in thermal spray processes and technologies. Since 1991, the program has supported the growth of the thermal spray community by emphasizing academic excellence, industry engagement, and a strong commitment to advancing the field.
In alignment with the scholarship’s focus on advancing thermal spray technologies, Suleiman’s research in FIU’s Cold Spray and Rapid Deposition (ColRAD) focuses on advancing soft-material structural deposits through cold spray additive manufacturing. His work examines how viscoelastic materials deform, bond, and stabilize under extreme particle impact conditions, enabling lightweight, durable, and thermally resilient structures for applications across aerospace, automotive, energy, and other industrial sectors.
