BS in Mechanical Engineering

A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering provides a solid foundation in the basic laws of science while allowing students to specialize in one of three major areas:

Program Requirements

Any degree-seeking student admitted to FIU in good academic standing may declare a major in mechanical engineering. 

To earn a BS in Mechanical Engineering, students must complete 128 credits, a minimum of 32 lower-division credit hours, including 11 credit hours that satisfy the University Core Curriculum.

Laboratories

The BS in Mechanical Engineering includes six semester hours of engineering laboratory work. These labs focus on solving design problems using experimental methods.

The lab experience covers areas like machining, circuits, fluid mechanics, mechanics of materials, materials testing, applications in fluid and thermal science and instrumentation and measurement.

Accelerated BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering Pathway

Students, who pursue a BS degree and are in their junior year (completed 75 credits), with at least a 3.20 GPA on both overall and upper division courses may apply to enroll in the combined BS/MS Pathway.
